Dear Colleagues,

Voting opened this morning for a new enterprise agreement. This agreement, won by the hard work of NTEU members, offers a range of improvements in pay and conditions for all staff.

So what are the core improvements in the agreement?

  • A 17.25% Pay Rise by 2025 - 4% Each Year (2023, 2024, and 2025) + Past Administrative Pay Rises (1.5% in 2021, 3.75% in 2023).
  • Three public holidays, along with the Christmas Closedown.
  • Enhanced job security, involving the creation of 90 new full-time equivalent (FTE) positions (60 in EFA and 30 in T&R) to reduce reliance on casual employment.
  • Formation of academic workload committees tasked with advising on the development and monitoring of a new workload model. These committees will include 40% NTEU representation.
  • A reduction of 30 hours in annual work hours, recognizing that unplanned leave will also be considered in workload calculations.
  • Improved leave provisions, including the introduction of a 30-day Gender Affirmation Leave.
  • The right for professional staff to request a review of their job classification.
  • Access to IT and Library resources for 200 days after each engagement for casual academics. Continuity of access will also be provided to casual professional staff who offer student support where needed.
  • Weekend penalty rates for professional casuals.
  • Advancements in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander career opportunities and governance.
  • Establishment of an Indigenous Staff Network, with recognition as paid work/time.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported us through the negotiations with management. We believe these improvements will significantly improve people’s working lives at Deakin in the coming years.

In Unity,

Deakin NTEU Branch
