Dear Colleagues

NTEU members at Monash have voted to go out on a 48-hour strike beginning at noon on Monday 9th October and running until 11.59am on Wednesday 11th October.

We have collectively decided to take the strongest industrial action at Monash University in over a decade. We are taking this action because the National Tertiary Education Union has been in negotiations with Monash management for a new Enterprise Agreement for nearly 12 months, with little progress having been made. It's time for management to pay attention to staff demands for secure jobs, fair workloads and a decent pay rise.

We have a reform agenda. It has come from your colleagues. Yes, we want higher wages, but we have put forward a series of ideas to university management about job security, better work-life balance, better consultation, real academic and intellectual freedom, and protections against management overreach. Better leave entitlements. An end to wage theft.

Monash management has said no to nearly all of these. We know the University can afford to treat its staff better.

There will be rallies held at Clayton and Caulfield. Please note that only NTEU members can take protected industrial action.

· Outside Chancellery @ Clayton: 12.30pm Monday 9th October – rally, BBQ, banner painting.

· LTB and Bus Terminal @ Clayton: 8.30am Tuesday 10th October – picket and morning tea.

· Train station entrance @ Caulfield: 8.30am Wednesday 11th October – picket and morning tea.
