Dear University of Melbourne Staff,

You may have recently seen the invitation by the University of Melbourne management for staff to provide feedback on their proposed new Enterprise Agreement.

The current Enterprise Agreement has passed its nominal expiry date. A new Enterprise Agreement is currently being negotiated between University management and the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU). The NTEU is your staff union on campus.

But what exactly is an ‘Enterprise Agreement’ and why does it matter to your working conditions?

  • What is University management proposing for a new Enterprise Agreement and what might it mean for your working conditions?
  • How does management’s proposal compare with the changes to working conditions which thousands of NTEU members and staff want to see? What do the NTEU’s log of claims and proposed Enterprise Agreement call for?

I am a Professor at Melbourne Law School with expertise in labour law. I am a proud member of the NTEU and a member of its negotiation team for University of Melbourne bargaining. I am also the NTEU Victorian Assistant Secretary (Academic Staff).

Please join me and other NTEU members and representatives for a discussion of questions you may have on enterprise bargaining at the University of Melbourne.

Kind Regards,

Professor Joo-Cheong Tham, Melbourne Law School

NTEU Victorian Assistant Secretary (Academic Staff)
