Dear Vocational Education Teachers,

With inadequate pay and diminished conditions, RMIT management’s proposed enterprise agreement for VE teachers at RMIT asks for more but delivers less. Our industrial experts have sifted through the details, and crunched the numbers, and their analysis shows the proposal falls well short of what you deserve and expect.

It’ll keep you behind your other colleagues at RMIT and behind other workers in Australia. The proposed agreement also falls well short of what the NTEU is asking for.

Despite management’s claims, RMIT can do better, and you deserve better. Vote no so we can get back to bargaining and win a better deal.

What does this proposed agreement really mean for you?

  • Inadequate pay: the offer is only 2.3% per annum over 4.75 years. It’s behind inflation, behind the national average, and behind the cost of living. We’re asking for a minimum pay rise of 15% by 31 December 2026.
  • Management also wants to change how you teach: with increased teaching availability from 7am to 7pm, plus higher and more intensive teaching loads. We want genuine workload relief, with a span 16 to 20 hours per week and a time allowance for course coordination.
  • Increased job insecurity: Management has removed the conversion process for fixed term staff and casual contracts. We want it reinstated in the agreement.
  • Delayed Superannuation: Management is offering to slowly increase your superannuation to 17% over the next few years. We’re asking for 17% superannuation now to put you on equal footing with your colleagues at Swinburne.

We can get a better deal, like we the ones we’ve bargained for and won across the sector. On March 12, vote no and ask your colleagues to vote no too.

We deserve a better deal.
